To our Kalei friends,
Many of you have asked us if we are operating a take-away service during this COVID-19 period that has taken the world by storm. We have considered it, but have come to the conclusion that for the time being, we don’t know enough about what’s happening to put you or our employees at risk.
We believe that Kalei’s success is best measured through the community we have managed to build, both in Mar Mikhael and in Ras Beirut. Many of you have become friends – whether you’re a daily frequenter, a traveler who drops by when in town, someone who has shown love on Instagram from far away, a neighbor or a supplier. And our staff is by far the largest driver of this success. Through their everyday work and efforts, they are the ones effectively running Kalei and actively building this community.
The last few months have been particularly tough for businesses across Lebanon. With our team’s efforts, we managed to sail through the economic crisis at half-mast. But there’s only so much we can navigate through. While ordering the closure of businesses ‘until further notice’, the government fails in taking action to protect workers from financial difficulties. So we are calling out to our community to participate in lifting a small load off our staff, without asking for charity. Here are two ways in which you can make a difference:
- Kalei Suspendu: Buy a coffee now, drink it later.
Buy a cup of coffee now (or as many cups as you like) and drink it when Kalei re-opens. All sales will go to paying staff salaries. Follow this link: www.kaleicoffee.com/shop/kaleisuspendu
- Order coffee bags and products through our website to be dispatched right away. As of today until the end of this period (however long it may be), profits from all online sales will go to paying our staff’s salaries. Our website: https://www.kaleicoffee.com/shop/
The Old Crow Medicine Show said it best: ‘We’re all in this together.’
Stay smart and healthy. Wash your hands.
We can’t wait to see you all again.
